Singapore clinches Silver Medal at the Beijing Olympics

Singapore has ended its 48-year wait for a second Olympic medal, winning the Silver medal in the Women’s table tennis team event.

Despite going down 3-0 to the China team, Singapore President S R Nathan remained proud of the local paddlers for their efforts against China. “’In the finals, our team met a formidable team with a world reputation; they did their best and therefore have no reason to be disheartened. In my eyes, they remain proud.”

The local blogosphere echoed President Nathan sentiments, praising the efforts of the Women’s table tennis team.

Blogger Aldric Chiang wrote: “I am not a great fan of the Olympics but when I heard that Singapore beat Korea 3-2 and made it to the finals for the Woman’s Table Tennis match, I just could not help feeling proud of my home country.” You can read more from his post here.
